Illuminating Leadership Paths: How Omantel’s Ten Teams Navigated Complexity in the AmplifAI Simulation

When Omantel set out to deepen its leadership bench in the midst of rapid digital transformation, 20+ senior leaders found themselves immersed in AmplifAI — a four-day experiential simulation delivered by Aeqlia in partnership with Emeritus Executive Education, facilitated by Nour Sobh.

Confronted with shifting market signals, competing priorities, and the complexities of AI-driven decision making, participants discovered in real time how their choices ripple across performance, collaboration, and organisational resilience.

Context

Omantel has embarked on a strategic path to embed data and AI into every layer of its operations — network planning, customer experience, and new digital services.

Senior leaders recognised that technology investments alone would not unlock value unless decision makers grew comfortable leading through ambiguity, embracing iterative learning, and balancing speed with stakeholder alignment.

To address this, Omantel partnered with Aeqlia and Emeritus Executive Education to deliver AmplifAI: an immersive business simulation that places leaders in the very tensions they face today.

Stepping Into the Tensions

The session gave leaders the chance to step into the realities of digital transformation and AI — making decisions, testing priorities, and exploring how to lead when technology, customer expectations and ways of working are all changing at the same time.

Programme Objectives

The conversations focused on six questions leaders are facing today:

  • How do we turn AI and emerging technologies into sustained competitive advantage?
  • How do we align leaders, teams and capabilities around a shared digital ambition?
  • How do we redesign the customer experience around evolving needs and expectations?
  • How do we build an organisation that can continuously innovate and adapt?
  • How should our operating model evolve to enable greater speed, agility and scale?
  • How do we use data as a strategic asset to improve decisions, create value and shape new opportunities?

The Simulation Experience

AmplifAI ran across the full four days of the programme. Participants step into the leadership of Ginkgo Bank, a fictional consumer and institutional bank facing pressure from tech disruptors and digital-only challengers. The simulation was designed with Professor Yoshi Mitsui of NUS Business School and inspired by McKinsey’s “Rewired” framework.

Leaders move through six stages, each built around a real decision a transformation leader has to make:

  • C-Suite Alignment — inspiring and aligning the top team, focusing on business domains, committing to the transformation
  • Talent — building the digital bench, rethinking the skills the organisation actually needs
  • Operating Model — designing a model that can scale and support the wider strategy
  • Technology — choosing the right tools, leveraging APIs, automating delivery
  • Data — building reusable data products and the governance behind them
  • Adoption & Scaling — driving adoption across the organisation and tracking what actually matters

The programme follows a three-part structure throughout: play the simulation, debrief as a group to unpack the decisions made, then bring what was learned back into the organisation.

What Leaders Take Away

AmplifAI is designed to leave leaders able to lead transformation themselves, not just discuss it. By the end of the programme, leaders are expected to:

  • Lead a transformation agenda instead of just supporting one
  • Make the operating model and technology choices that let transformation actually scale
  • Put the customer, not the technology, at the centre of digital decisions
  • Build the kind of culture that keeps adapting once the programme ends

By the end of the programme, leaders emerged with sharper agility, a shared language for leadership trade-offs, and concrete actions to carry their insights into Omantel’s unfolding transformation journey.
